In the project we worked on developing algorithms for counting people using standard digital surveillance cameras. The camera was placed in the ceiling facing straight down and was able to count the number of people passing under it. The algorithm ran embedded in the cameras and was able to analyze the video stream in real time. People counting is mostly used by retail chains and shopping malls to keep track on the number of visitors.
